PhRMA's Tauzin To Raise Money For Richardson

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

NM Gov. Bill Richardson (D) is hosting a bevy of Washington’s elite tomorrow at a $2300 per plate fundraiser in downtown DC.

Among the names on the invitation list: “Hon. Billy Tauzin.”

That would be the former Republican congressman from Louisiana, currently the president of The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

PhRMA is a bit of a bugbear for most ‘08ers.

Tauzin’s spokesman, Ken Johnson, tells the Hotline: “He’s had a long standing personal relationship with Bill dating back to their time on the energy and commerce committees.”

Tauzin’s presence and friendship reflect personal sentiment, not PhRMA policy, and Tauzin is representing only Tauzin tomorrow night, Johnson said. [MARC AMBINDER]

At Manresa beach

Up a tree!

MORE PICS HERESo…just because I felt like it, just because I wanted to get away again, I went off camping at Manresa a month after I had just gone. This time I went with just the kids, PookaMagoo, and my DOGS.  Plural. 2 big pain-in-the-ass dogs.  Megan and talked about it later on that the next time we go, we're not bringing the dogs AND Pooka.  She was a pain in the ass, too.  She upset me so much one time as we were packing to leave in the parking lot, I threw a slipper at her from about 20 feet away.  I fuckin' missed, too - dammit!Anyway, besides Pooka being a total butthead (no, I don't want to do that…no, I CAN'T!…this is TOO heavy!!! *whine* *pout*, *pretend not to hear me*) and the dogs wanting to eat other dogs, it was a pretty great camping trip!It started off getting there at 10 o'clock on Friday night and trying to find our campsite in the freaking dark, dragging sleepy Pooka along AND being dragged by 2 dogs on a leash.  And don't forget the bags, sleeping bags, and the pillows that kept on falling to the ground.  Haha!  It was pretty hilarious, such a comedy to just get there.  By the time we got all our stuff out of the truck, the dogs tied nicely, and the tent set up it was way past midnite.  And boy was it cold! The next day, Saturday, we got up at around 7 and went down to the beach for a stroll with the dogs.  Barely anyone was down there so we took the dogs off the leash and just had a good time.  Walking back, I told Megan we should put the dogs back on the leash, and as soon as I said it, we saw a lady come out with her teeny, tiny dog whom Husaberg wanted to play with right away.  Mind you, Husaberg is retarded and doesn't have any great dog social skills and his playing really looks like he just wants to EAT other dogs.  It also doesn't help that he's A HUNDRED TWENTY POUNDS.  So off he went to drive me nuts and into a panic.  Nothing happened really, besides him making the poor dog squeal like a pig going to slaughter for a couple of minutes.  Gah!!Anyway…breakfast (or lunch) finally came around when I was finally able to get a fire going with just a few matches and firewood.  It took me forever!  I was calling people bitching about the dingdang fire (surprisingly this time, I had cell reception).  But I was determined to NOT embarass my heritage cuz you know all Filipinos are supposed to know how to get a goddamn fire goin'!  Right?  So yes, we were all able to have bacon, eggs, and fried rice for breakfast after all… YUM. :)And then of course it was nappy time.  Even Pooka took a nap and she rarely does that at all, Miss Energizer-Bunny.  I got up before they did and started writing/reading.  Then later on we headed down to the beach again to chill while Megan tried out surfing the white water.  It was SO cool watching her out there.  Pooka just kept herself busy talking to as many people as possible on the beach.  Me, I just relaxed with the dogs on a very, very short leash, and read my book and wrote.  It was a pretty nice, relaxing day, just how I like it.For dinner, we had fried bangus (milkfish).  I had actually already fried it at home the day before and I just reheated it over the fire so it actually tasted like it was smoked.  SO GOOD.  And we still had rice from earlier in the morning. Then we all took showers (thanks, Pooka, for making sure to put ALL of the quarters in there for me!) and it was nite-nite after 9.  But that was not to be the end of the night.  We woke up in the middle of night (was it 2am???) to Koda's incessant whiny barking.  Oh geez…I am so gonna get kicked out of here for all eternity!  Damn dogs!  Megan went to find out what all the fuss was about and it turned out there was a skunk going through the dogs' food!  Ew!  Megan was so funny.  The one thing she thought of to do was throw Pooka's slipper at it.  She said she was able to hit the skunk dead on, right on its side but the skunk was totally unphased and just shifted a bit and kept right on eating for a bit more before nonchalantly walking away!  I was so cracking up inside the tent (hell no, I'm not going out there where it's cold AND skunky!).   Poor Magoo, hehe…We ended up having to put Koda in the tent with us just to shut her up (Jason, we totally cleaned up the tent very well after - promise!!!).And that wasn't really the end of the night though.  During this whole skunk fiasco, I felt something sticky on the sleeping bag.  I slowly, hesitantly smelled my hand, hoping to dear god it wasn't going to be awful.  Well, it was awful, but it wasn't too bad. It was toothpaste.  For some bad reason or great karma, the toothpaste tube ended up right at the entrance of the tent so it had squeezed out quite a bit all over the sleeping bag while Megan was going in and out of the tent, trying to settle Koda.  Dammit, can I not get some sleep here!  Yah, had to clean that up before finally getting some sleep.  Just thinking about the whole thing all over again exhausts me…Anyway, Sunday came around and we started packing up as soon as we got up.  Pooka was being a butt, not being very helpful in carrying stuff to the truck but, oh well.  We got everything in good, and the weather was awesome.  We got us some coffee at a great coffee shop (yes, Nathan, we found the one Adam was talking about last time - right turn, NOT left - haha!) and headed home sweet home.  Lovely, lovely weekend…
